At a recent birthday party for a friend of mine, I pointed out the following to my friend: Eighty-seven years after you were one-third as old as you were one year ago, you will be four times as old as you were five years after you were one-fourth as old as you will be eight years from now. What is my friend’s age?

Is it 88 years? [too old to be true, I guess]
“87 years after you were 1/3 as old as you were 1 year ago, you will be 4x as old as you were 5 years after you were 1/4 as old as you will be 8 years from now.”
Literally translates into mathematics to:
87 + 1/3 (X-1) = 4 x [5 + 1/4 (X + 8)]
X = 88
Got some old friends dude :)
88 is the correct answer.
Solve the equation:
((x – 1) / 3) + 87 = 4 * (((x + 8) / 4) + 5)
Anant, you are today’s winner.
