  I think if you hold the bottle at a 45 degree angle and fill it up until the water spills over, it will be halfway full.

  Great guess but incorrect.

  That method would work with an evenly shaped vessel. This, however, is a randomly shaped receptacle.

  Count the number of pumps it takes to completely fill the vessel. Empty the vessel, and begin refilling it, pumping only half as many times.
