The following Wednesday, nine days later. At dawn on Monday the snail was at the bottom. Each day it climbed 3 inches, and dropped 2 inches over night, so at the start of the next day it was 1 inch higher, so: Monday morning – 0
It is Thursday, NOT Wednesday. Assuming the snail starts completely at the bottom, and his NOSE travels 3 inches up and slides back 2, then his NOSE hits the rim the following Wednesday – his body would still be below the rim. He gets out on Thursday.
(If the back end of the snail is supposed to have reached 3 inches on day one, then the snail traveled MORE than 3 inches.)
