A black cat stands in the middle of an intersection in a town painted black. None of the street lights are working due to a power failure caused by a storm. A car with two broken headlights drives towards the cat but turns in time to avoid hitting him. How could the driver have seen the cat in time?

It was daytime
I like J’s answer. Even if it was night time, a car could still have two working headlights (and two working fog lights) even while having two broken headlights. Like this BMW: http://www.bimmerwerkz.com/forum/attachments/3-series-e21-e30/11447d1093491428-square-not-square-question-524203_1_full.jpg
Also, I was thinking the exact center of an intersection should be a safe place to stand, as cars should be driving on the right…?
The car avoided the cat because the cat’s eyes stood out, or it was daytime and the person saw the cat and avoided it.
J is today’s winner!
Who said this happened during the night?
Also, if it was winter time, the black cat would really stick out against the snow white roads (even if the entire town was painted black).
The sun is out
It was day time.
